DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

  • Nearly one-third of American women (31 percent) report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives, according to Commonwealth Fund survey.

  • From 1992 to 1996, victimization by an intimate accounted for about 21 percent of violence experienced by females. It accounted for about two percent of the violence sustained by males.
