Men Who Care Luncheon

We are excited about Helpmate’s upcoming Men Who Care event, which will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Asheville. This event, which takes place every other year, is our major fundraiser for this year and proceeds will fund services to victims and survivors of domestic violence.

The 2009 Men Who Care Luncheon was attended by nearly 200 men and raised more than $40,000.  The generosity of Asheville’s businessmen benefited women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Helpmate has offered free, confidential services for more than 30 years.  This year alone, Helpmate will provide more than 4,000 nights of emergency shelter to 225 women and their children, crisis counseling to 250 women, support group services for 150 women and court advocacy to 1,800 women.  In addition, staff and volunteers will handle approximately 800 crisis calls from battered women.

In The Words of a Survivor of Domestic Violence:  “When I first arrived at Helpmate, I was lost and feeling very alone.  For months, I felt trapped by my situation.  I was warmly welcomed by the staff and reassured I had made the right decision.  In the actually short time I have been here, I have been able to hold a job, find child care for my son, and was recently accepted for public housing.”

We invite you to become a sponsor of the Men Who Care Luncheon.  Sponsors will be listed in our program, on our website and be recognized at the luncheon.  You can sponsor at any of the following levels:

 Premier Sponsor                     $2,500 +

Leadership Sponsor                $1,000

Supporting Sponsor                 $  500

Community Sponsor               $  250

We are grateful for the generosity of our community’s businessmen.  Together we can stand against domestic violence and eliminate abuse and fear.
