"Helpmate has helped me to become safe and organized.  Helpmate is a wonderful organization. It got me and my son to a safe environment.  It took away the fear of worrying about drama in my life.  It helped me to have more self-esteem.  It helped me know that I don't have to hang my head down low. It helped me know I could do things that I never thought I could do, for example going to get my CNA, something I put off for ten or fifteen years. I always had someone telling me that I couldn't do it, that I wasn't enough, that I was too stupid, that I wasn't good enough. Being here with the other women and the counselors, it boosted my self esteem. To really have someone to listen to you when you are in danger, a pleasant voice, and then you meet the person behind the pleasant voice. It makes you feel better."                   -A Helpmate client

"I feel like it was very important for my son to be here, and away from our abuser.  He has been much happier and outgoing.  He has gotten lots of love and attention from the staff and other residents.  Everyone has been patient with him, and I feel he has really grown socially from our experiences here with the other children as well as adults."            -A Helpmate client

"When I first arrived at Helpmate I was lost and feeling very alone.  For months I felt trapped by my situation.  I was warmly welcomed by the staff and reassured I had made the right decision. In the actually ver short time I have been here, I have been able to hold a job, find childcare for  my son, and was recently accepted for public housing.  These were my written goals, but not the only ones I accomplished.  I have also acquired a new self conficence, which has led me to not only lose fifty pounds, but learned proper way to have a relationship.  I now use all of the tools and knowledge given to me through countless hours of therapy to try to assess any and all personal relationships I choose to put myself in.  This may be the greatest gift anyone could truly receive.  With this new understanding I know I will never be in this situation again and I am truly grateful for that above all else."                                                  -A Helpmate client
