Day of Caring at Helpmate
The United Way’s Day of Caring was held on Thursday, September 1, 2011. This is an annual event that is coordinated by Hands On Asheville Buncombe, a program of the United Way.
Hands On connects individuals, families, businesses, and faith groups to local non-profit organizations who need volunteer support. Helpmate has participated in the Day of Caring for many years, and this year eight volunteers from Mills Manufacturing Corporation assisted us with much-needed building and grounds work projects around our emergency shelter. They helped us with touch-up painting inside the facility and they completed a large amount of yard work as well. In three hours, this amazing group was able to accomplish many tasks that would have taken an individual volunteer days to complete! We are grateful to the following folks from Mills Manufacturing: Cheryl Atkins, Amber Bechinski, Billy Brackett, Yelena Dranchak, Ellen Hughes, Tatiana Lungu, David Mays, and Dan Swift.
