Domestic Violence Vigil - Oct. 26
There will be a Domestic Violence Vigil at the YWCA this Wednesday, October 26. From 5-5:30, you can view the Silent Witness Exhibit (a traveling memorial to women/children who have lost their lives in NC), the Clothesline Project (t-shirts made by survivors of various forms of violence), and artwork that was made by children living in Helpmate’s emergency shelter. We will have food and beverages available as well, so please come between 5-5:30 to check out these powerful exhibits!
The program will begin at 5:30 and will include a survivor testimony by one of our beloved volunteers, Rebecca Croft. We will also be paying tribute to the women, men, and children who have lost their lives so far this year in N.C. As of October 19, there have been 55 domestic/family violence-related deaths in our state alone.
The YWCA is located at 185 S. French Broad Ave and this vigil will be held in the multi-purpose room. Please sign in at the front desk and the receptionist will direct you to this room. Also, please be aware that parking can sometimes be a challenge at the YWCA when community events are being held there so please arrive early in order to find parking. There are a few YWCA designated parking spots in the Housing Authority parking lot across from the YWCA.
