Volunteer Spotlight: Leah McCurley
Leah McCurley offers counseling, chaplaincy services
Leah McCurley began volunteering with Helpmate in the spring of 2009. She began by offering her chaplaincy services to our shelter residents and is still currently providing this service to any client who requests spiritual counseling. Leah provides our residents with a very calming presence in the midst of their crises and her spiritual guidance has been an enormous help to many as they began their healing process.
Leah has also been tremendously helpful to us on other levels. She is a very self-motivated building and grounds helper, and does a variety of tasks around the Helpmate shelter. When Leah sees that the flower beds need weeding in the spring, or that the grass is getting too high in the summer, or that the leaves are accumulating in the fall, she comes up with a plan to take care of it immediately. When a bulb is burned out, Leah comes running with the replacement. The Helpmate staff is very grateful to Leah for helping us keep our house and grounds safe and beautiful all year round!
Finally, Leah also assists with outreach presentations to various community groups and has donated many hours to fundraising efforts. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and always eager to go the extra mile. It has been a real pleasure getting to know Leah and it is evident that she cares deeply for those who are struggling with abuse. We love you Leah!
