Volunteer Spotlight - Norene Barrett
Norene Barrett has been volunteering with Helpmate since 2003 and has become an integral part of our team over the years.
She began with indirect service and assisted us with fundraising events and administrative tasks during those early days, but went on to get trained for hotline advocacy. She began taking a regular nighttime hotline shift in January 2006 and has been an enormous help to us ever since! Norene also helped with relief work at our previous shelter by covering many shelter shifts when a staff member had to take time off. The Helpmate staff has come to know her as a friend and tremendous ally, one whose passion and motivation to help survivors of domestic violence is evident. It has become apparent to the staff that assisting with Helpmate’s mission is a top priority in her life and Norene is always willing to offer her support in various ways. She has a huge heart and because she possesses a great deal of positive energy, Norene has become a fantastic advocate for our clients. We are so grateful to know her and to have her on our volunteer team!
