Volunteer Training

Helpmate relies on volunteers to assist them with a variety of needs and offers many types of volunteer opportunities.  There are two categories of volunteer positions and individuals are encouraged to choose any type that suits their interests and skills.  Indirect service opportunities include reception assistance, special events/fundraising assistance, community education, as well as building and grounds work.  Direct service positions include 24-hour hotline advocacy and childcare.  All indirect service and childcare opportunities require attendance at a three-hour domestic violence orientation.  A 12-15 hour training is required for hotline advocacy work.  There is also some additional observational training involved for this type of direct service position.

Helpmate offers three orientations and trainings every March, July and November.  They are always held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:30pm.  For more information about volunteer opportunities and the upcoming training that begins on July 13, please contact Christy Price at (828) 254-2968, ext 12 or cprice@helpmateonline.orgClick here for the July training curriculum.
